The C5 didn't exist when the Z32 and Rx-7 were conceived and during the years they were sold. The C4 Vette (and 944T) was the main inspiration that went into the conceptual design of the Z32. I agree that style-wise, GM borrowed some styling cues from the 3rd Gen RX-7 when they designed the C5 Vette. What's my point? For all intents and purposes, it was the Z32 that was considered the "Japanese Vette", not the RX-7.
